tools/trace_digest.py reads an APS5_TRACE_FRAMES capture (aps5-trace-*.json.gz)
and prints a markdown report of a few KB, or the same data as JSON: the
summary line from aps5-summary.jsonl, the slowest frames with their largest
slices, the busy, wait and untraced time of each thread, the largest slices
per frame, the longest waits, and with --stacks the hottest frames of an
APS5_SAMPLE_WORKER collapsed-stack file. Python standard library only; a
unittest checks every section on a small synthetic trace.

tools/progress_history.py measures the first-parent history of main with
the rules of tools/progress.py, one point per day, and writes history.json,
history.svg and history.html. The Progress workflow runs it after
progress.py; the README shows the chart under the map and links the page.
Labels and points compact as days accumulate.

command_output patched subprocess._text_encoding, which does not exist on Python 3.10, so all eight tests errored before their assertions. Use subprocess._text_encoding where available and map io.TextIOWrapper locale to cp1252 on older interpreters, so a subprocess with no explicit encoding decodes as cp1252 on both. Add a behavioral check that default decodes as cp1252 while explicit utf-8 stays correct.

pr_overlap only skipped a pair when one pull request named the other
directly. In a stack where #3 depends on #2 and #2 on #1, #1 and #3 were
reported as overlapping, and two pull requests built on the same #1 were
reported for the files and exports both inherit from it. Dependencies are
now followed through open pull requests, and what a shared dependency adds
is left out of the same-file and same-export columns.

Check.duplicates reported a duplicate export for a hit in another
library unless that single grep line ended with a semicolon, so a
prototype wrapped over two lines was reported as a duplicate
definition. The hit file is now read at the head commit and the
existing function_body decides whether the hit is a definition.
The git grep pattern also used the GNU escapes \b and \s, which the
BSD regex library on macOS does not support, so the check never
matched there. The pattern now uses POSIX classes instead.

exports() only checked whether the matching line ended with a semicolon, so a
prototype wrapped over several lines was counted as an implemented export and
two PRs adding the same forward declaration were flagged as overlapping. It now
joins the following added lines up to the first semicolon or brace and treats
the match as a declaration when the semicolon comes first.

When squarify gave a group a sliver narrower than 2px, treemap passed cells a zero or negative width, so the row count became complex or divided by zero and render crashed. cells now returns no cells for rectangles without area. A regression test renders a 300 and 1 item split.
