Slots: a frame of a main component becomes a slot property
(component.makeSlot / removeSlot, preferred components, type "slot" in
component.properties). Instances show the main's default content until
the slot is edited; from then on its layers are the instance's own
(override group "slot"): free to add, remove and reorder, kept across
main updates, variant switches, copy/paste and detach, and instances
placed there stand alone. instance.slotInsert fills a slot,
instance.resetSlot brings the default content back. Structure
protection allows edits inside slots only; drops from the Assets panel,
canvas drags, drawing and paste land in slots. UI: slot icon in the
layers panel, dashed outlines and labels on the canvas, slot property
rows with a fill menu in the properties panel, Make/Remove slot on
frames inside a main.
Nested overrides: overrides inside a nested instance survive the main
moving it into another frame (layers matched by source alone when
unique); a nested instance copied out of an instance is re-linked to
its own main with its look kept (values set by component properties
aren't overrides); plain layers copied out of instances stop mirroring
them; canvas drags can no longer pull layers out of an instance or
reorder its auto layout children. Tests for swaps, variant switches,
main restructuring, detach and copy/paste.

Shadow X, Y, blur, spread and colour, and layer/background blur radius
take variables from the Effects section like other fields (variable
button on hover, a chip to change or detach once bound). Bindings are
stored as `effects/<index>/<offsetX|offsetY|radius|spread|color>` and
applied in normalisation; pickers offer effect-scoped variables.

* M3: colour profiles: sRGB or Display P3 per file, convert or keep values, tagged exports
- color: ColorProfile (srgb, displayP3) with conversions derived from the primaries (shared D65
white and sRGB curve; out-of-gamut channels clip), table-driven pixel conversion, a generated
ICC v4 matrix/TRC profile and PNG cICP code points.
- doc: Document.color_profile (serde default sRGB, written only when set); every colour value
(paints, text runs, effects, grids, page and prototype backgrounds, overlay backdrops, styles,
colour variables, document colours) can be mapped; set_color_profile converts or reinterprets.
- engine: file.colorProfile {profile?, convert?} (File > Color profile...; without a profile it
opens the dialog); document.inspect reports colorProfile.
- render: images are taken as sRGB and managed into the file's space; encode_export tags PNG
(sRGB chunk, or iCCP + cICP for Display P3) and embeds the ICC profile in Display P3 JPG/WebP;
SVG and PDF export Display P3 files converted to sRGB. The CLI exports the same way.
- ui: Color profile dialog (keep appearance / keep values) and a Color profile row on the page
panel; the canvas, presenter, thumbnails, swatches and colour picker show a Display P3 file's
colours converted to the screen's sRGB, and Copy as PNG converts too.

* M3: image adjustment presets: built-in, saved in the file, reset
- color: ImageFilters::PRESETS (Vivid, Muted, Warm, Cool, Black & white, Fade, Reset), lookup by
id or label, and sanitized values.
- doc: Document.image_presets (name + adjustments; written only when there are some).
- engine: image.adjust {ids?, target?, index?, preset?, filters?} sets the adjustments of image
paints from a preset (built-in or saved) with values on top, one undo step; image.savePreset,
image.deletePreset and image.presets.
- ui: the colour picker's image section gets a presets menu named after the preset in effect
("Custom" otherwise), saved presets with delete, "Save as preset...", a Reset button, and
aligned adjustment sliders.

* M3: style picker: search, folders, list or swatch grid, edit, create, detach
The Fill, Stroke, Effects and Layout grid sections' Styles button opens a popover laid out like
the variable picker (crates/ui-egui/src/style_picker.rs):
- search over style names; styles grouped by the folders of their `/`-separated names, which
collapse (searching opens them); colour styles as a list or a grid of swatches;
- click applies, a check marks the applied style; the row's edit button (or a right-click) edits
the name, description and values: colour style paints open the colour picker on the style,
effect and grid styles update from the selection; delete;
- `+` creates a style from the selection's current values and opens it for naming; detach;
- colour slots still list colour variables to bind;
- the applied style chip opens the picker; new icons Adjust, ViewList, ViewGrid (drawn in code);
- control channel: ui.set {stylePicker, stylePickerEdit, stylePickerView}.

The Typography section's line height and letter spacing fields now take
number variables (in pixels) like the other number fields: a variable
button on hover opens the picker (scoped to line height or letter
spacing), and a bound field shows the variable's chip to change or
detach it. While a text range is selected they keep taking plain values.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Under the selected collection, the sidebar lists "All variables" and the
collection's groups (from `group/name` paths, nested groups indented)
with counts; picking one filters the table. Groups can be renamed
(every variable in them follows, one undo step) or deleted.

While the Scale tool (K) is active, the Design panel shows a Scale
section: width and height fields that scale proportionally, a scale
factor field and a 3 x 3 anchor picker for the point that stays put.
It goes through transform.scale, so strokes, effects, radii and text
scale with the layers.

The Inspect tab's code menu gets "HTML + CSS": the selected layer and
everything under it as nested elements with a stylesheet. Auto layout
frames become flexboxes (fill children flex or stretch, hugging sides
drop their fixed size), other children are placed absolutely in their
parent, text becomes escaped paragraphs, and each layer gets a unique
class named after it. inspect.code takes `language: "html"`.

* M5: scrolling inside device frames and a prototype preview pane
On a device, the presented top-level frame is sized to the device's screen:
what doesn't fit is clipped, or scrolls (wheel and drag) when its overflow
allows it. Fixed layers stay on screen, pinned to the edges their
constraints name; "Scroll to" moves every scrolling frame around the layer;
navigating starts at the top unless the new "Preserve scroll position"
option keeps it.
The preview pane is a resizable window over the canvas running the same
player (present.rs now shares layout, drawing and input between the
full-window presenter and the pane). It follows edits live, keeps the
current screen while it exists, shows a newly selected top-level frame, and
takes the keys its prototype uses only while hovered. Opened from the play
menu, the Prototype tab (flows, settings, frame) and `proto.preview
{start?}` / `proto.closePreview`; the control channel gets `ui.set
{preview, presentScroll}` and the player's state in `ui.inspect`.
Alt+Cmd+Enter now presents.

The Inspect tab lists the layers in and under the selection that have
export settings, with their formats and sizes. Click one to export it,
or Export all from the section header (one file through a save dialog,
several into a folder). New command inspect.assets.

Layout (crates/layout):
- Fill children take their size before the frame is sized, so wrapping fill
text, frames that hug it and grid rows settle in a single pass (three
levels deep included).
- Fill children share space like CSS flexbox: min and max violations are
resolved in turn instead of freezing both at once.
- A single child with space-between sits at the start; a wrapped row of only
fill-height children keeps their height; grids size fill-width children
before their rows.
- coherent_sizing: Fill only in an auto layout flow on an axis the parent
doesn't hug, Hug only on auto layout frames and text (a text hugs what its
resize mode grows); anything else becomes Fixed at its size.
Engine:
- Setting a child to Fill turns a hugging parent Fixed on that axis; a parent
that starts to hug, layers leaving auto layout and layout.remove fix the
rest (applied in normalize).
- Moving layers: the deepest auto layout frame under the pointer wins (plain
frames in a flow are items, not destinations; the dragged layers and their
descendants are skipped); the frame they come from keeps them near its
edge. They take the slot (or grid cell) there with the insertion line drawn
in the gap and the receiving frame outlined; out of auto layout they become
positioned children of the canvas or plain frame at the drop point. One
undo step per drag. Slots skip hidden and absolute children.
Tests: crates/layout/src/nested_tests.rs, crates/engine/src/al_nesting_tests.rs.

While dragging layer rows, another page in the Pages list highlights as a
drop target; dropping moves the dragged layers (the selection when the
dragged row is in it) to that page through object.moveToPage.

On lines with right-to-left runs, Left and Right now move the caret one
position left or right on screen (TextLayout::visual_step) instead of one
char in logical order, so the caret no longer jumps backwards inside
Arabic or Hebrew. At a line's edge it continues to the neighbouring line
in reading order. Plain left-to-right lines are unchanged.

View ▸ Pixel preview now shows the canvas as it would export at 1x when
zoomed in: the view is rendered one pixel per page unit from a
whole-pixel origin and magnified without smoothing, so anti-aliasing and
sub-pixel edges show as they really are (and line up with the pixel
grid).

* M6: REST import of prototypes and variables; export panel polish
REST API file JSON import now brings prototyping and variables along:
- interactions: on click/hover/press/drag, after delay, mouse enter/leave/down/up and key
triggers; navigate, open/swap/close overlay, back, scroll to, change to, open link and set
variable actions (lone unconditional blocks inlined); dissolve, smart animate, move, push and
slide transitions with easing incl. custom bezier and spring; the legacy transitionNodeID
- flow starting points (and the deprecated start node), overflowDirection, scrollBehavior,
prototypeDevice and prototype background
- the local variables response (collections, modes with the default first, values, aliases,
scopes), passed as `variables` to file.open / file.import (object, JSON text or path), found
next to the file (<name>.variables.json / variables.json) or embedded; boundVariables, paint
and text style bindings and explicitVariableModes map onto the fields variable.bind uses
- file.import appends variables, flows and prototype settings with the pages
- unsupported parts (video, gamepad, conditionals, variable modes, library variables) warn
Export panel: rows with a typed or preset size (2x, 512w, 512h), suffix and all five formats
through the new export.update command; export.add steps up (1x, 2x @2x, ...); a preview;
"Export N layers" through the new file.exportLayers (one file per setting, unique safe names)
in the panel and the Export dialog; file.export takes `size`. MCP open_file/export pass the new
params.

* M6: Inspect tab: properties with styles and variables, redlines on hover (#41)
The Inspect tab lists the selected layer's properties for handoff:
layout (size, position from the parent, rotation, opacity, radius), auto
layout (direction, gap, padding, alignment), typography, fills, strokes
and effects, each with the style or variable it comes from. Clicking a
value copies it. With the Inspect tab open, hovering measures distances
from the selection without holding Alt.
New command inspect.properties returns the same groups for agents.

The selected shapes' outlines split the canvas into regions, computed as the faces of their
arrangement with linesweeper (curves kept, per-shape fill rules, holes and islands handled) and
cached per document version and selection.
- Engine: shapeBuilder.regions / merge / remove / mode commands, ToolId::ShapeBuilder and
tool.shapeBuilder (catalog: Tools > Shape builder, Shift+M). Merge makes one vector from the
picked regions styled like the top-most shape over the first; every shape covering a picked
region loses that area (becomes a vector, or is deleted when nothing is left). One gesture or
command is one undo step. Session::tool_key routes Enter (finish) and vector edit keys.
- Pathops: faces() (arrangement faces with their covering inputs) and union_faces().
- UI: region edges on the canvas, hovered/collected regions hatched (danger colour to remove),
no transform box while building, a toolbar pill with Merge/Remove modes, a hint and Done; shared
pill/tool-cell/divider/Done helpers; original merge/remove icons drawn in code.
- Tests: pathops faces; engine regions, merge, remove, curves, groups, rotation, pointer
click/drag/Alt, modes, Escape/Enter, cache, junk parameters and degenerate geometry.
- Docs: ROADMAP, README, docs/mcp.md, docs/control-protocol.md, docs/parity.md.

Every 30 minutes, each open document with unsaved changes since its last
version gets an automatic "Autosave" version (flagged `auto` in the file).
The newest 20 autosaves are kept; older ones make room and user versions
are never dropped for them. Runs of autosaves fold into one line in the
Version history panel. New command version.autosave.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Dragging layers in the panel now scrolls the list near its top and bottom
edges, opens a collapsed frame or group after holding over it, shows the
dragged layer's name (or "N layers") by the pointer, and Escape cancels.
A layer can no longer be offered as a drop target inside itself.

Clicking a version in Version history shows it in place of the document,
read-only, with a banner to restore it or go back to the current version
(clicking Current version or closing the panel goes back too). Edits,
undo and gestures are refused while a version is shown; saving, closing
and restoring end the preview first, so the document and its unsaved
state are never touched by it.
New commands version.preview and version.exitPreview; version.list marks
the shown version.

- Publish (`library.publish {description?, include?, exclude?}`, Libraries > Publish library…):
the file's components, component sets and styles (by default all but names starting with `.` or
`_`, or what the last publish offered) and every component and style they use go into a snapshot
with a manifest (library id, version, per-asset version stamps). An asset keeps the version it
last changed in; publishing without changes is refused.
- .figcraft: `library/manifest.json`, `library/document.json` (the snapshot) and
`library/images/<sha256>` for images only the library still uses. Older files and readers are
unaffected (extra members); a damaged library is skipped and reported when the author's file
opens. Files using a library read only these members (size-limited), never unpublished edits.
- Version history: the library entries are written and read alongside the versions (a library
survives saving with versions and reopening); restoring a version keeps what the file published.
- Enable: `library.add {path}` / `library.remove {id}` / `library.list {assets?}`; the document
keeps its enabled libraries (id, name, path, last seen version) in its data. The session caches
each library file and reads it again when it changes on disk; in the browser these commands
return a clear error (no file system).
- Use: `library.place {library, component, x?, y?}` / `library.import` copy the component (with
the components and styles it uses) into a hidden library store (a page-like root outside the
page list) as read-only main components and place an instance; instances behave like any other
(overrides, properties, variants, swap, reset, detach). `library.applyStyle` copies a style in as
a linked remote style. Editing the copies or library styles is refused; Go to main component
names the library. Importing a file's pages brings its library copies along (shared with copies
the document already has).
- Updates: `library.updates` and `library.acceptUpdates {ids?}` re-import changed copies in place
(layer ids kept, so instance overrides survive, also when layers are added); unused copies are
dropped when a library is removed or updated.
- Assets panel: each enabled library's components (thumbnails, search, click or drag to place,
shared with the local tile code) and styles (click to apply, paint swatches), collapsible per
library; "Library updates available" banner with Update; a libraries view (book button,
Libraries menu) to publish this file (choose assets, description) and add or remove library
files. Local styles in the panels list only this file's styles.
- Tests: manifest round trip and versions, add/place/update keeping overrides (incl. a structural
update), variants/swap/undo, library styles and importing pages, missing/corrupt/truncated/
oversized/never-published files; format tests for damaged and oversized members.

Large documents stay interactive: the canvas re-renders only what a pan uncovers or an edit
touches, the layers panel lays out only the rows in view, and per-frame work no longer walks the
whole page.
- Benchmark: `cargo xtask bench [SIZES]` builds synthetic pages (`figcraft_engine::synthetic`:
screens with an auto layout header, a card group, button instances and shapes/text) at
1k/10k/50k layers and prints engine/render timings (`figcraft-cli perf --layers 1000,10000`) and
headless whole-UI frame timings (an ignored ui-egui test).
- Retained canvas rendering (`figcraft_render::Retained`, used by the render worker): views snap
to whole device pixels, so a pan shifts the previous image in place and renders only the
uncovered strips; an edit renders only where changed layers were and are
(`Document::changed_ids` diffs the two versions skipping shared structure; ancestors that paint
from their children's pixels - booleans, effects, masks - count whole; background blur reach
and noise are allowed for). Zoom, page, options, font or page-level changes, or large changes,
render the whole view as before. `ui.inspect` reports `canvas.renderWork`.
- The texture image is converted on the render thread, not the UI thread.
- Layers panel: only visible rows are laid out (stable ids while scrolling); rows are cached per
document version, page, expanded set and filter.
- Frame labels and layout grids of off-screen top-level frames are skipped; the Prototype tab's
connection sources are cached per document version.
- Text: the layout cache keys by a cheap fingerprint confirmed by `TextData` equality (no Debug
formatting per lookup, 32k entries) and hands out shared layouts; a layout generation marks
renders stale when fonts arrive. Overflowing text is culled by its glyphs, so it no longer
vanishes while its box is off screen.
Before -> after (release, Windows, 1440x900 view, ms; 10k / 50k layers):
- move one layer, re-render @100%: 7.65 / 6.49 -> 0.18 / 0.81
- move one layer, re-render zoomed out: 11.95 / 24.10 -> 0.16 / 0.77
- pan 40 px @100%: 7.53 / 6.82 -> 0.69 / 0.81
- pan 40 px zoomed out: 12.07 / 24.30 -> 1.62 / 4.17
- full render @100% / zoomed to fit: 7.78 / 44.22 -> 6.56 / 38.83 (10k @100%, 50k fit)
- UI frame, every screen expanded in layers: 6.16 / 39.07 -> 0.24 / 0.57
- UI frame, scrolling that panel: 6.11 / 40.18 -> 0.43 / 0.40
- UI frame, layers filtered by name: 1.03 / 6.92 -> 0.17 / 0.36
- UI frame, Prototype tab: 0.89 / 6.45 -> 0.18 / 0.80
- UI frame, idle: 0.31 / 1.43 -> 0.11 / 0.39
Unchanged and within budget: single-layer edits through the engine ~0.01 ms, normalize after a
one-node edit < 0.01 ms, hit test 26 / 93 us. Left: save/load at 50k (~0.7 s each), zoomed-out
renders at 50k (~40 ms).
Tests: retained renders match full renders after pans, moves, recolours, hide/remove/add, undo,
masks, overflowing text, edits under a background blur and an inner-shadow/noise layer, a drop-
shadowed group, and a blur panned in from the view's edge; zoom/page/options/page background
render full; junk views don't panic. Layer-row and prototype-source caches follow edits, undo,
page switches, expansion and the filter. `changed_ids`, the text cache, and the perf CLI.

Text runs get bidi embedding levels from the Unicode bidi algorithm
(unicode-bidi, MIT/Apache-2.0). Right-to-left runs are shaped right to
left, kept in logical order for line breaking and placed in visual order
per line (rule L2, trailing spaces at the paragraph level). Glyphs and
lines know their direction, so the caret, clicks and selection
highlights follow right-to-left runs. Text without right-to-left
characters skips the analysis.

The Local variables window becomes a table editor: collections in a
sidebar, variables grouped by name with one value column per mode, typed
value cells (colour swatch + hex + alpha, number, string, boolean), alias
chips with a variable picker and detach, double-click rename, context
menus, and an Edit variable window for description and scopes.
New commands: variable.update (name, description, scopes),
variable.duplicate, variable.renameMode, variable.removeMode,
variable.renameCollection, variable.deleteCollection. variable.set
validates aliases (same type, no loops) and stores them by id; addMode
always picks a fresh mode id. Pickers offer only variables scoped to the
property. ui.set {variables} opens the editor on a collection.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Number fields for opacity (variables hold percentages), individual corner
radii, auto layout padding and gaps, min/max sizes and font size now take
variables like width and corner radius already did. Text content binds to
string variables and visibility to boolean ones from the Typography and
Appearance section headers; bound ones show as a variable chip that
changes or detaches the binding.

Selecting several layers with the same rotation now shows the handle box
turned with them (the size label reads the box's own width and height),
and resizing scales them along the box's axes instead of the page's.
Different or right-angle rotations keep the page-aligned box.

- With several layers selected and the same interactions, the Prototype panel edits them all
(add, remove, trigger, action, animation).
- With different interactions it shows "Mixed": + replaces them all with one new click
interaction (one undo step), Remove all clears them.
- New command `proto.interaction.clear {ids?}`.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Dragging a child of a wrapping row layout inserts by visual row and position (rows are found
from the flow, so the insertion line spans the right row), instead of by x alone.
- Dragging a child of a grid layout places it in the cell under the pointer (nearest cell over
gaps), with a dashed cell highlight while dragging; one undo step.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Components and component sets get a Description field (multi-line, saved when it loses
focus; undo refreshes it). Instances show their main component's description (or the set's)
under the swap menu.
- The frame status/resize block no longer shows for instances, where it doesn't apply.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Cmd/Ctrl+V pastes an image from the system clipboard (screenshots, images copied in other
apps) as an image layer centred in the view; an image-only clipboard (no paste event) is
handled from the key.
- FigCraft remembers what it last put on the system clipboard (SVG of the copied layers, or a
marker): when the clipboard still holds it, paste uses our copied layers; anything newer from
another app (image, SVG, text) is pasted instead. Cut now also mirrors to the system clipboard.
- Desktop services read clipboard images (size-capped); the browser falls back to text.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Object ▸ Resize to fit (Alt+Shift+Cmd+R, `object.resizeToFit`): frames, sections and
components shrink or grow to their visible contents without moving them on the page; auto
layout frames switch to hug instead.
- Sections get colour swatches (light tints) in the Design panel.
- Frames and sections get a handoff status (`devStatus`: ready for dev / completed) set from
the panel and shown as a badge next to their name on the canvas; `node.get` reports it.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Eraser tool (Shift+E) in the vector edit toolbar: drag a brush over paths to remove the parts
it covers; segments are cut exactly where the brush enters and leaves (curves stay curves),
fully covered segments and orphaned points go, and closed shapes open while keeping their
implied fill. A stroke is one undo step; the brush shows under the pointer.
- `vector.edit.erase {points, radius?}` for the CLI, control channel and MCP.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Versions now belong to the document (DocState.versions) instead of a process-global map keyed by
document uid, so they survive closing the file. A new, renamed or deleted version marks the file
as changed.
- .figcraft: `versions/index.json` (id, name, description, time, image hashes) plus one deflated
`versions/<id>.json` snapshot per version; images only versions use are stored once and kept with
them. Snapshots read from a file are parsed on first use (and written back as-is). Readers that
don't know versions ignore the entries; files without versions load unchanged. Damaged, missing,
oversized or duplicate entries are skipped and reported, never failing the load. At most 100
versions per file; names and descriptions are clipped.
- Commands: `file.saveVersion {name?, description?}` returns the version; `version.list`;
`version.restore {id | index}` (one undo step, keeps the file name, stays on the current page);
`version.rename {id | index, name, description?}`; `version.delete`; `version.duplicate` (opens
the snapshot in a new tab). Indexes are validated: a negative index used to restore version 0.
`req_index` param helper shared with the guide commands.
- Version history panel in the left sidebar in place of Pages and Layers (File > Show version
history; Save to version history opens it with the form): save form (title, description),
"Current version" on top and the versions newest first on a timeline with name, relative time and
description; per-version menu (also right-click): Restore, Rename (title and description inline),
Duplicate, Delete (confirmed inline). New shared `widgets::button`.
- `figcraft-cli run --out x.figcraft` keeps the version history.

The canvas renders large views in parallel horizontal bands, and each band crops a layer to its
own rows. Three effects went wrong at those crops:
- Inner shadow (the reported bug): the padded shadow buffer treated everything beyond the cropped
layer as outside the shape, so every band edge cast shadow inwards, drawing dark bands across
the layer (any shape and fill; also at the view's edge when a layer was partly off screen). The
shape itself is now rasterised over the padded buffer at the shadow's offset (sub-pixel
accurate), so only its real edges cast shadow.
- Layers starting above or left of the pixmap (inside the blur margin) were sized from the
clamped origin and came out short by the margin: a drop-shadowed or background-blurred layer
crossing a band edge lost a strip at its far side.
- Background blur read a backdrop that stopped at the band's edge (streaks at band edges). Bands
now overlap by what background blurs read (3 sigma + box rounding) and keep only their own
rows; a blur wider than a band renders the view in one piece.
Regression tests (crates/render/src/band_tests.rs): an image-filled ellipse and a rotated solid
rectangle with inner shadows (spread, offsets) under a background-blurred panel, at 1x and 2x,
rendered in 2, 3 and 7 bands, must match the one-piece render row by row; the ellipse's interior
far from its edge must equal the render without the shadow on every row; a huge backdrop blur
falls back to one piece.

- A nested instance inside a main component can be exposed (`component.exposeInstance`, an
"Expose properties to instances" toggle in its panel); the main's instances then list it by
name with its variant and component property controls, recursively for exposed instances
inside it. Values set there are nested overrides and survive main edits.
- `instance.exposed {id}` lists an instance's exposed nested copies (for the CLI and MCP).

- Closing an overlay (Close overlay, Back, a click outside) plays its opening transition
backwards instead of removing it at once; one closed mid-opening reverses from where it got
to; instant overlays still go immediately.

- While a range of text is selected in a text being edited, the Fill section shows that range's
colour ("Mixed" when it varies): the swatch opens the colour picker on the range, the hex field
sets it, and a button returns the range to the layer's fill.
- Colour picker: a text-range target that reads the range's fill and writes `text.style
{textFills}`.

- Layers gain `maskType` (alpha by default, so files are unchanged): a vector mask clips by the
mask layer's outline whatever its fills and opacity; a luminance mask shows content where the
mask is bright and hides it where it is dark.
- `node.set {maskType}` (validated), `node.get` reports it, and the Appearance section shows a
Mask dropdown when the selection is masks.

- Code generation moves from the UI into the engine (`codegen.rs`): CSS for the layer as before,
plus SwiftUI and Compose for its subtree (stacks with spacing and padding for auto layout,
offsets inside a ZStack/Box otherwise, text with font and colour, shapes, fills, strokes,
shadows, opacity; other layers become image-asset placeholders). String literals are escaped
per language; deep trees are capped.
- New command `inspect.code {id?, language?}` for the CLI, control channel and MCP.
- Inspect tab: a language picker and Copy for the shown code; Copy as CSS uses the same code.

- The Advanced stroke button now opens an inline settings block: style (Solid / Dash) with Dash
and Gap fields, Join with the miter angle, and Start / End point for lines and vectors.
- Frames and rectangles get an Individual strokes menu (All, Top, Right, Bottom, Left, Custom);
per-side weights show as T / R / B / L fields.

- New `figcraft_format::rest`: imports the public REST API file JSON (`GET /v1/files/:key`, and
the nodes endpoint's response) using the published reference only. Pages (name, background,
flow starting points), the layer tree, names, visibility, lock, opacity, blend mode, masks.
- Geometry from `relativeTransform` (children of groups/booleans checked against
`absoluteBoundingBox` to settle their space), else absolute bounds + rotation; sizes, corner
radii (uniform and per corner), smoothing, clip content, constraints, export settings, layout
grids.
- Paints: solid, linear/radial/angular/diamond gradients (handles map 1:1), image fills (fill,
fit, tile, stretch, rotation, filters) with bytes from a resolver or a grey placeholder keyed by
the imageRef; paint opacity, visibility and blend. Strokes: weight, per-side weights, align,
caps, join, dashes, miter angle. Effects: drop/inner shadow (offset, radius, spread, show behind),
layer and background blur.
- Vectors from `fillGeometry` (stroke-only vectors use the `strokeGeometry` outline), ellipse arc
data, stars/polygons, boolean operations. Text: characters, type style (family, style or weight
+ italic, size, line height px/%/auto, letter spacing, case, decoration, alignment, auto resize,
truncation, paragraph spacing/indent, OpenType flags, links), per-character overrides → styled
runs (UTF-16 aware), list type.
- Auto layout: direction incl. grid, alignment, padding, gaps, wrap, hug/fixed/fill sizing (legacy
and per-axis fields), absolute positioning, min/max, grid cells.
- Components and sets with descriptions and property definitions (names lose their `#id`
suffix); instances of components in the file become instances with their property values and
listed overrides; outside components and component cycles stay frames. Shared styles are created
from the layers that use them, named from the metadata.
- Unknown types and fields are skipped with a counted warning list; sizes, depth (256), layer count
(200,000), path length and list lengths are capped; nothing panics on junk.
- Engine: `file.open` / `file.import` / CLI detect the JSON by content, link imported instances to
their mains (sources and overrides), read image fills from an `images` folder next to the file,
never save over the JSON, and return `warnings`. `file.import` now remaps ids across all
imported pages at once (instances keep their main and layer sources) and brings styles and page
backgrounds along. `figcraft-cli info` prints load notes.

- Effects and Layout grid sections gain the Styles button: a list of the document's effect or
grid styles (click to apply) and "Create style" from the selected layer; an applied style shows
its name with a detach button, like colour styles.
- The colour style picker and style chip are now one shared implementation for fill, stroke,
effect and grid slots.

- Width, height, corner radius, gap and stroke weight fields show a variable button on hover; it
opens a picker of the document's number variables by collection (search, values shown). A
bound field shows the variable's name in a chip (click to change, detach to unbind).
- The fill and stroke style picker lists colour variables; a bound first paint shows the
variable's name with a detach button.
- Fix: editing a variable's value (or adding a mode value) now updates bound layers; before,
normalisation skipped the change because no layer was touched directly.

- With the Frame tool active the Design tab lists frame presets by category (Phone open by
default, others collapsible) with their sizes; clicking one adds the frame, selects and shows
it, and returns to the Move tool.
- `frame.create {preset}` without a position places the frame 100 to the right of the page's
right-most top-level layer (top-aligned), or centred in the view on an empty page.
- New `frame.swapOrientation {ids?}` (portrait ⇄ landscape) with a button next to the frame type
in the Design panel header.

- Easing gains `customBezier {x1, y1, x2, y2}` (CSS cubic-bezier) and `customSpring {mass,
stiffness, damping}` (a damped spring's step response over its settling time, played over the
interaction's duration); presets keep their string form, so files stay compatible.
- Interaction editor: Custom bezier / Custom spring in the easing menu with value fields (typed or
scrubbed, one undo step), the curve preview follows.
- Presenter: the page's prototype device now frames the presented screen with a body drawn in
code (phones with rounded screens, side buttons and a camera pill; tablets; a laptop with its
base; a desktop monitor on a stand).

- Page guides now draw on the canvas (under the rulers, shown with them).
- Drag from the top ruler for a horizontal guide, from the left ruler for a vertical one; drag
a guide (Move tool) to move it, back onto its ruler to remove it. Positions snap to whole
pixels when pixel snapping is on; a tag shows the position while dragging or hovering.
- Commands: `guide.add` returns the index, new `guide.move {index, offset}` and `guide.clear`;
`guide.remove` and `guide.move` reject bad indexes (a negative index used to remove guide 0).

- Inline IME composition: egui Preedit events become a composition held in the text edit
session (`TextEdit.preedit`), shown inline at the caret with an underline and the IME cursor,
reflowing the text; the document only gets the committed text (`text.edit.insert`). Composing
over a selection replaces it; moving the caret or ending the edit drops an uncommitted
composition. The IME candidate window follows the cursor inside the composition.
New command `text.edit.preedit {text, cursor?}`; `text.edit.selection` reports it.
- Variable fonts: faces read their fvar axes (tag, name, range, default, hidden) and named
instances. Named instances are offered as styles and resolve in `find`; a style name with no
instance implies weight/italic/slant on the axes and optical size follows the font size.
Per-run custom axis values (`TextStyle.variations`, serde default, omitted when empty) are applied
in HarfRust shaping (ShaperInstance) and skrifa outlines/advances (cached per coordinates).
PDF export outlines non-default instances instead of embedding the default one.
- Commands/props: `fontVariations` / `variationSettings` props (whole layer or start..end),
`text.setVariations {variations, replace?}` (merges; edited range while editing),
`text.fonts {family, style?, axes: true}`; `node.get` and copy/paste properties carry the axes.
Picking a named style (Bold/Italic toggles, weight steps, fontStyle/fontWeight) drops custom
wght/ital/slnt values and keeps the others.
- Type settings ▸ Variable tab for variable fonts: a slider (default tick, double-click to reset)
and a field per visible axis, "Mixed" across differing styles, live drag as one undo step,
"Reset to style". Long style/family names stay on one line with an ellipsis and a tooltip.
- Tests: variable font shaping/outlines/clamping/instances (skipped without a variable font),
serde backward compatibility, preedit lifecycle and undo, variation commands/props/undo/junk;
junk sweeps extended with variation and preedit params.

- Gradient stops on the canvas: drag a stop along the gradient line, click the line to add a
stop (sampled colour), the selected stop is ringed and shared with the picker; Delete removes
it (two always stay).
- Colour picker value row: a model dropdown (Hex, RGB, HSL, HSB, CSS) with its fields and the
alpha field; scrubbing works on the numeric fields.
- "On this page" swatches: the page's most used solid colours (cached per document snapshot);
swatches set a solid colour or the selected gradient stop.
- New command `paint.documentColors {page?, limit?}`; control channel `ui.set {colorPicker}`.

- Arrow keys on children of an auto layout frame move them one place along the flow (Left/Up
earlier, Right/Down later; grids step by a row vertically); selected neighbours move as a
block and stop at the ends. Free layers still nudge.
- Cmd/Ctrl+arrows resize the selection by the nudge amount (Shift: big nudge), top-left fixed;
only the changed axis becomes Fixed. New command `transform.nudgeSize {dw, dh, big?}`.
- Control channel `ui.key` arrows with `cmd` resize too.

- Assets tab rebuilt as its own module: local components as two-column tiles with live
thumbnails (re-rendered when a component's content changes, throttled), a search field that
filters components and styles, and the local styles list.
- Drag a tile onto the canvas: a ghost follows the pointer, the frame under it highlights and auto
layout frames show the insertion line; releasing drops an instance there, centred on the
pointer. Clicking a tile places one in the middle of the view.
- New command `instance.place {component, x, y}` (page point; drops into the frame or auto layout
slot under it; never inside its own main) for the CLI, control channel and MCP.
- The auto layout drop slot is shared with moving layers (`drop::auto_layout_slot`).
- Creating a component from a single shape names it after the shape.
