Misspelled words in the text being edited get a wavy underline (theme
danger colour); right-click one for suggestions, Ignore (until the app
quits) and Add to dictionary (saved in preferences). Text > Spelling >
Check spelling toggles it, on by default, with a check mark.
The engine stays platform-free: a SpellChecker trait the desktop app
installs (the system's checker through os-spellcheck on Windows and
macOS, in the system's language). Words are checked one at a time and
cached; the edited text is re-checked only when the document changes.
Linux, FreeBSD and the web have no checker yet; scripts written without
spaces (CJK, Thai) are skipped.
Commands: text.spelling, text.spellingSuggestions, text.replaceWord,
spelling.addWord, spelling.ignore. Menu breadth 201/204.
figcraft-server hosts many files over the same hub the app uses for sessions, persists each as a checksummed snapshot plus an append-only log (synced before replies, compacted, damaged files skipped and reported) so restarts lose nothing confirmed, and gives per-file share links with edit or view access (hashed 128-bit tokens, revocable). The app can publish a file to a server and join server-hosted files; view-only tabs refuse edits. Protocol version 2.
- Browser client (step 4): the web build joins sessions a desktop app hosts
through the browser's WebSocket API (web-sys, binary frames, the same
message encoding). Its connection logic is a target-independent state
machine (collab-net driver.rs): hello on open, changes and presence held
until the welcome, throttled presence, keep-alive pings, a silent host
counted as dropped, reconnect with backoff, final refusals. Tested natively
against a scripted socket and a real host over loopback. Hosting stays
desktop-only (LiveLink::can_host; collab.peers canHost). https pages are
told up front that they can only reach ws:// sessions on this computer.
- Shared join logic (join.rs: GuestConfig, outcomes, taking in host messages)
and transport limits (limits.rs) used by the native guest and the browser.
- Invite links: `figcraft figcraft://join?...` joins on start (a bad link
opens the Join dialog with it); file:// arguments are paths. Windows
registers a per-user figcraft:// opener (HKCU\Software\Classes\figcraft)
behind a Registry trait (tests use a fake): collab.registerLinks {on?} and a
Preferences checkbox, default on for installed builds, never for builds
from source. macOS Info.plist declares CFBundleURLTypes; the Linux desktop
entry declares x-scheme-handler/figcraft and passes %U.
- Join dialog: Escape closes it and no longer reaches the canvas (selection
kept); its field has the keyboard when it opens.
- Docs: collab-protocol (browser client, links, mixed content), mcp,
control-protocol, README, web hosting notes, collaboration wording in the
progress docs (numbers unchanged).

The 0.3.0 web release failed packaging/web/package.sh's 24 MiB gate: the wasm grew from
22.2 MB (0.2.0) to 27.0 MB once the plugin sandbox (wasmi + wasmparser, #101) and the
collaboration crates (#103-#105) joined the browser build, which still used the desktop
`release` profile (opt-level 3, thin LTO, 4 codegen units).
- Cargo.toml: new `web-release` profile (inherits release; opt-level "s", fat LTO, one codegen
unit, no debug info, stripped). opt-level "z" measured 16.9 MB; "s" keeps render speed.
- apps/figcraft-web/index.html: build with that profile, and pass the wasm features rustc emits
(bulk memory etc.) to wasm-opt, which otherwise rejects the size-optimised module.
- Version 0.3.0 -> 0.3.1. docs/releasing.md: the web profile and size history.

* Release prep: bump to 0.3.0; add linux-riscv64 release job
- release.yml: new linux-riscv64 job (cross-compiled on ubuntu-24.04 against ports.ubuntu.com
riscv64 libraries, tar.gz only, CLI smoke-tested under qemu-riscv64), ported from GridCraft;
the release job needs it so SHA256SUMS covers its tarball.
- packaging/linux/package.sh: CROSS_ARCH / CROSS_TARGET / CROSS_COMPILE / EMULATOR support.
- Version 0.2.0 -> 0.3.0 (cargo xtask version set), Cargo.lock refreshed.
- docs/releasing.md, docs/hardware-parity.md: list the riscv64 tarball.

docs/collab-protocol.md: WebSocket sessions with a server-ordered,

fractional positions for children, ephemeral presence (cursors,

* M9: collaboration core: ids, change sets, server ordering, convergence
Step 1 of docs/collab-protocol.md, no networking:
- Client-scoped node ids: Document::set_client_id makes alloc_id hand out
client << 32 | counter; single-user files allocate as before; the id
counter is no longer part of document equality.
- crates/collab (layer 2): the synced object/property model (every saved
Node field, plus document-level styles, comments, variables, images,
dev snapshots, library data), Change batches, an O(changed) diff, strict
and lenient apply, fractional sibling positions, snapshots.
- Server (ordering, validation, rejects with fixes) and Client (optimistic
view, replay under remote batches, author-side repair of derived data)
as pure state machines; binary (version byte + postcard, JSON values) and
JSON message forms, fuzzed decoders.
- Engine: normalize as the recompute hook, collab.diff.
- Tests: round trips over random real commands, an N-client convergence
fuzz test over delayed in-order links, junk batches.

* M9: fmt after merge
* M9: live sessions: host from the app, invite links, live cursors and presence
Step 2 of docs/collab-protocol.md, networking and presence half:
- crates/collab-net (layer 6): WebSocket transport (sync tungstenite, a
reader and a writer thread per connection, no async runtime), the
session host the app embeds (runs figcraft_collab::Server as the
authority, carries its messages), invite links, presence throttling
(~30 Hz, latest wins), limits (sockets, hello/idle timeouts, message
size, rate, slow clients), keep-alive, clean close, reconnect with
backoff; a browser stand-in until the web-sys client (step 4).
- engine: live session state (status, peers, presence, follow) and the
collab.host/stop/join/leave/peers/follow/cursor commands; the network
is reached only through the LiveLink the app installs.
- ui-egui: remote cursors (pointer drawn in code, name tag, gliding),
selection outlines (once documents sync), avatars in the right panel
with follow, the Share popover (start, invite link + URL with Copy,
stop), File > Join live session.
- desktop app and MCP headless session install the link; xtask layers
keeps networking crates out of L0-L5.
- Documents don't sync between apps yet (follow-up).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* M9: live sessions: document sync between apps
- The host's session runs figcraft_collab::Server seeded with the shared
document; every app (the host's too, through the hub without a socket)
is a collab Client. Guests open the host's file from the welcome as a
new tab; leaving keeps it as a local copy.
- Engine: after each local action (a gesture once it ends; nothing during
version or text previews) the session document is diffed into one
Changes batch; server batches go through Client::receive with
EngineRecompute and are installed with Session::apply_remote, which
never touches the undo history. Batches arriving mid-gesture wait.
- Transport: Changes/Reject/Welcome reach the engine as Event::Sync;
LiveLink::send carries batches in order; hellos are limited to 64 KiB,
joined clients to the core's message size.
- Tests: engine sync against a real Server (ids in the client's space,
one batch per gesture, remote edits skip undo, deferral, closing the
file leaves), three apps over loopback converging (create, move,
recolour, delete, rename) and a late joiner getting the server's state.
- Docs: collab-protocol, mcp, README, roadmap docs; the UI's
"cursors only" note is gone, replaced by the per-person undo caveat.

Sandboxed WebAssembly plugins whose API is the command registry:
- figcraft-plugin (new crate, L2): the figcraft-plugin.json manifest
(menu commands with parameters, read/write access, command allowlist)
and the sandbox: wasmi (pure Rust, no JIT, also in the web build) with
fuel metering, a memory cap, no WASI and seven host functions (call,
selection, reply_len, reply_read, log, notify, set_output).
- Engine: plugin.list / plugin.import / plugin.remove / plugin.run,
plugins.runLast (Alt+Cmd+P; Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P on Windows/Linux) and
plugins.manage. A run is one undo step (Session::grouped, which
command.batch now uses too) and is rolled back when it fails. Files,
other documents, the undo history, dialogs and plugins are off limits;
read-only plugins can't change the document. Installed plugins live in
the preferences; development plugins re-read their module every run.
- UI: installed plugins in the Plugins menu, a parameters form drawn
from the manifest, Manage plugins, Plugins > Development > Import
plugin from manifest.
- plugins/: a no_std Rust SDK and two example plugins (Tidy names,
Swatch grid), built for wasm32 by `cargo xtask plugins` (part of
`cargo xtask wasm`).
- Docs: docs/plugins.md (manifest, permissions, limits, ABI, SDK),
docs/mcp.md, docs/control-protocol.md, README, ROADMAP, parity.

* M8: accessibility: screen reader names, keyboard navigation mode
- Screen readers: the custom-painted controls report a role, name, value and
state to AccessKit (number and text fields, dropdowns, segmented and toggle
buttons, tools with their keys, layer rows as tree items, pages, tabs, menu
items, the canvas describing the selection), from the shared widget helpers
and a `Tip` trait for ad-hoc icon buttons. Regions are named containers.
- Keyboard navigation: F6 / Shift+F6 (view.nextRegion / view.previousRegion)
cycle the toolbar, layers, canvas and properties; Tab / Shift+Tab move within
a region and wrap; Enter or Space activate; arrows move along the toolbar and
through the layer rows; menus and flyouts opened from the keyboard take it and
give it back; Escape returns to the canvas. A focus ring (new `focus` token)
shows until the next pointer press. Tab on the canvas selects the next layer
again instead of moving egui's focus to the tab strip; Enter that starts a
field edit no longer ends it.
- Reduced motion: pref.reduceMotion and the system setting (Windows
UISettings, macOS, GNOME, prefers-reduced-motion) turn egui's animations off.
- Contrast: light secondary and accent text meet WCAG AA.
- ui.inspect reports focus {region, keyboard, control} and reduceMotion;
ui.set {focusRegion}.

* M8: accessibility: regression test against nested egui context locks
A debug build's temporary logging called the context inside a context closure and hung; the shipped code never does. Document the rule in a11y.rs and run every accessibility path with the AccessKit tree on, so a nested call fails the test (debug builds panic after 10 s) instead of hanging.

SVG import comes in editable and looking right: groups named from their
ids with transforms baked into the layers (rotated, scaled and skewed
groups, viewBox scaling and <use> offsets used to be lost); rectangles,
ellipses and lines recognised and kept as those shapes; gradients with
exact handles, reflect/repeat and focal points; patterns as image fills;
clip paths and masks as vector, luminance and alpha masks; shadow and
blur filter chains as drop shadows, inner shadows and layer blurs; blend
modes; text as text layers (it used to vanish); images and nested SVG
images. What can't be represented is reported as import warnings
(file.import / file.open warnings, figcraft-cli info notes). Linked
files are never read, and documents nested too deep for the parser are
refused instead of crashing.
Pasted SVG is recognised after XML declarations, comments and doctypes
and lands centred in the view (file.import center). SVG export writes
vector masks as clip paths and alpha/luminance masks as the mask layer
drawn, so masks survive a round trip.
Tests: a corpus of 21 synthetic SVG files with hand-worked expected
pixels (158 probes), structure checks and export round trips; unit tests
for shape recognition, paints, filters, structure, mask export; hostile
input and byte-mangled corpus fuzzing; engine file command tests.

* M3: colour profiles: sRGB or Display P3 per file, convert or keep values, tagged exports
- color: ColorProfile (srgb, displayP3) with conversions derived from the primaries (shared D65
white and sRGB curve; out-of-gamut channels clip), table-driven pixel conversion, a generated
ICC v4 matrix/TRC profile and PNG cICP code points.
- doc: Document.color_profile (serde default sRGB, written only when set); every colour value
(paints, text runs, effects, grids, page and prototype backgrounds, overlay backdrops, styles,
colour variables, document colours) can be mapped; set_color_profile converts or reinterprets.
- engine: file.colorProfile {profile?, convert?} (File > Color profile...; without a profile it
opens the dialog); document.inspect reports colorProfile.
- render: images are taken as sRGB and managed into the file's space; encode_export tags PNG
(sRGB chunk, or iCCP + cICP for Display P3) and embeds the ICC profile in Display P3 JPG/WebP;
SVG and PDF export Display P3 files converted to sRGB. The CLI exports the same way.
- ui: Color profile dialog (keep appearance / keep values) and a Color profile row on the page
panel; the canvas, presenter, thumbnails, swatches and colour picker show a Display P3 file's
colours converted to the screen's sRGB, and Copy as PNG converts too.

* M3: image adjustment presets: built-in, saved in the file, reset
- color: ImageFilters::PRESETS (Vivid, Muted, Warm, Cool, Black & white, Fade, Reset), lookup by
id or label, and sanitized values.
- doc: Document.image_presets (name + adjustments; written only when there are some).
- engine: image.adjust {ids?, target?, index?, preset?, filters?} sets the adjustments of image
paints from a preset (built-in or saved) with values on top, one undo step; image.savePreset,
image.deletePreset and image.presets.
- ui: the colour picker's image section gets a presets menu named after the preset in effect
("Custom" otherwise), saved presets with delete, "Save as preset...", a Reset button, and
aligned adjustment sliders.

* M3: style picker: search, folders, list or swatch grid, edit, create, detach
The Fill, Stroke, Effects and Layout grid sections' Styles button opens a popover laid out like
the variable picker (crates/ui-egui/src/style_picker.rs):
- search over style names; styles grouped by the folders of their `/`-separated names, which
collapse (searching opens them); colour styles as a list or a grid of swatches;
- click applies, a check marks the applied style; the row's edit button (or a right-click) edits
the name, description and values: colour style paints open the colour picker on the style,
effect and grid styles update from the selection; delete;
- `+` creates a style from the selection's current values and opens it for naming; detach;
- colour slots still list colour variables to bind;
- the applied style chip opens the picker; new icons Adjust, ViewList, ViewGrid (drawn in code);
- control channel: ui.set {stylePicker, stylePickerEdit, stylePickerView}.

Large documents stay interactive: the canvas re-renders only what a pan uncovers or an edit
touches, the layers panel lays out only the rows in view, and per-frame work no longer walks the
whole page.
- Benchmark: `cargo xtask bench [SIZES]` builds synthetic pages (`figcraft_engine::synthetic`:
screens with an auto layout header, a card group, button instances and shapes/text) at
1k/10k/50k layers and prints engine/render timings (`figcraft-cli perf --layers 1000,10000`) and
headless whole-UI frame timings (an ignored ui-egui test).
- Retained canvas rendering (`figcraft_render::Retained`, used by the render worker): views snap
to whole device pixels, so a pan shifts the previous image in place and renders only the
uncovered strips; an edit renders only where changed layers were and are
(`Document::changed_ids` diffs the two versions skipping shared structure; ancestors that paint
from their children's pixels - booleans, effects, masks - count whole; background blur reach
and noise are allowed for). Zoom, page, options, font or page-level changes, or large changes,
render the whole view as before. `ui.inspect` reports `canvas.renderWork`.
- The texture image is converted on the render thread, not the UI thread.
- Layers panel: only visible rows are laid out (stable ids while scrolling); rows are cached per
document version, page, expanded set and filter.
- Frame labels and layout grids of off-screen top-level frames are skipped; the Prototype tab's
connection sources are cached per document version.
- Text: the layout cache keys by a cheap fingerprint confirmed by `TextData` equality (no Debug
formatting per lookup, 32k entries) and hands out shared layouts; a layout generation marks
renders stale when fonts arrive. Overflowing text is culled by its glyphs, so it no longer
vanishes while its box is off screen.
Before -> after (release, Windows, 1440x900 view, ms; 10k / 50k layers):
- move one layer, re-render @100%: 7.65 / 6.49 -> 0.18 / 0.81
- move one layer, re-render zoomed out: 11.95 / 24.10 -> 0.16 / 0.77
- pan 40 px @100%: 7.53 / 6.82 -> 0.69 / 0.81
- pan 40 px zoomed out: 12.07 / 24.30 -> 1.62 / 4.17
- full render @100% / zoomed to fit: 7.78 / 44.22 -> 6.56 / 38.83 (10k @100%, 50k fit)
- UI frame, every screen expanded in layers: 6.16 / 39.07 -> 0.24 / 0.57
- UI frame, scrolling that panel: 6.11 / 40.18 -> 0.43 / 0.40
- UI frame, layers filtered by name: 1.03 / 6.92 -> 0.17 / 0.36
- UI frame, Prototype tab: 0.89 / 6.45 -> 0.18 / 0.80
- UI frame, idle: 0.31 / 1.43 -> 0.11 / 0.39
Unchanged and within budget: single-layer edits through the engine ~0.01 ms, normalize after a
one-node edit < 0.01 ms, hit test 26 / 93 us. Left: save/load at 50k (~0.7 s each), zoomed-out
renders at 50k (~40 ms).
Tests: retained renders match full renders after pans, moves, recolours, hide/remove/add, undo,
masks, overflowing text, edits under a background blur and an inner-shadow/noise layer, a drop-
shadowed group, and a blur panned in from the view's edge; zoom/page/options/page background
render full; junk views don't panic. Layer-row and prototype-source caches follow edits, undo,
page switches, expansion and the filter. `changed_ids`, the text cache, and the perf CLI.

Text runs get bidi embedding levels from the Unicode bidi algorithm
(unicode-bidi, MIT/Apache-2.0). Right-to-left runs are shaped right to
left, kept in logical order for line breaking and placed in visual order
per line (rule L2, trailing spaces at the paragraph level). Glyphs and
lines know their direction, so the caret, clicks and selection
highlights follow right-to-left runs. Text without right-to-left
characters skips the analysis.
