A PDF saved with the reference app's editing data keeps that data in
streams named AIPDFPrivateData1, AIPDFPrivateData2, ..., where a .ai
file uses AIPrivateData1, AIPrivateData2, .... illustrator_data read
only the .ai names, so such a PDF opened like any other PDF: plain
groups opened ungrouped, and hidden objects and guides were missing. The
import gave no warning that the PDF's editing data went unread.
illustrator_data now reads the AIPDFPrivateData streams when the file
has no AIPrivateData1, and the PDF opens from its editing data as a .ai
file does. editingData: false still opens it like any other PDF.
has_private_data still looks for AIPrivateData keys only.
layered_ai also returns whether it read the layers. When it did, art
reaching past a PDF's page opens whole, and through_editing_data drops
the PDF importer's note that such art was clipped (PAST_PAGE_NOTE, now
public) as it drops the off-artboard note. When it didn't, both notes
stay. On main, a .ai whose editing data can't be decoded or has no
layers opened from its PDF part without the off-artboard note.
testkit::ai::pdf writes the .ai file of testkit::ai::ai with the PDF
key names. The editing-data tests open it as a PDF, and the import fuzz
test opens the damaged sample as a PDF too.
Docs: the document.open params, docs/mcp.md,
docs/file-format-parity.md, docs/gaps.md (G9: the export direction of
#868 remains), one evidence line in docs/target-app-parity.md, and #868
moved from layer structure to editing data in the File formats row of
docs/target-app-parity.md and in docs/roadmap.md.
Overnight doc conflicts were resolved by keeping both sides, which left two or three copies of
some milestone and parity rows (M1–M3, M5–M7, M14; six area rows; one type row). Each is now one
row with every note. The 2026-10-12 progress row takes the 30 PRs landed since and the Film
Grain row that #1282 added separately.
Localize native/web file filters, diagnostic labels, numbered presets
and contributor tooltips with English fallback and Czech plural forms.
Fix gradient adjective agreement and disambiguate Japanese printer marks
in PDF/Print choices and summaries. Keep file extensions and names intact.
Add Czech catalog rows and regression coverage; update localization evidence.

coverage, support existing native and raster export paths, translate
new labels and update parity documentation.
Validate the tonal curve, stationarity, subpixel strength, zoom filtering
and tile seams. Full cargo xtask ci passes all seven gates.
Object › Graph › Data (and the graph tool after drawing) opens the
Graph Data window as a worksheet, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/add-graph-data.html
and
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/adjust-column-width.html
describe, in place of a free-text CSV field.
- The first row holds the series labels, the first column the category
labels, the other cells the values. A click picks a cell, edited in
the entry box above the sheet: Tab enters it and moves right, Enter
down (Shift: the other way), the arrow keys move between cells.
Pasting tab- or line-separated text fills cells from the picked one.
- Import Data reads a tab-separated text file (UTF-8, or UTF-16 with a
byte-order mark), at most a graph's 10,000 × 256 cells.
- Transpose row/column and Switch x/y (scatter graphs) rearrange the
sheet; Revert reads the graph's data again; Cell Style sets the
decimals shown and the columns' width. Apply redraws the graph and
leaves the window open.
- The sheet reads and writes the graph's series, categories and rows
(not CSV), so labels with commas, quotes or `|`, blank labels and
graphs without category labels come back as they were.
- Only the cells in view are drawn, read in place, so a full-size sheet
stays responsive.
Own choices, as the pages don't say: Number of Decimals only changes
what the sheet shows; Transpose is off when it would make more series
than a graph holds; the arrow keys move between cells rather than the
caret. Dragging a column's edge to resize it isn't supported yet.
Text formatted in a graph, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/format-the-text-in-graphs.html
describes (the whole graph with the Selection tool, or labels picked
with Group Selection, through the Character and Appearance controls),
now survives the graph being drawn again from its data.
- A graph keeps a character style per kind of label: value axis
numbers, category labels (category axis, radar spokes, pie names)
and legend labels (beside or across the top, or in wedges).
- text.setStyle, text.setFormat and fill/stroke changes on a graph's
labels apply the same change to their kind's kept style, so only what
the user changed is kept and every label of that kind follows. A
change to part of a label's text isn't kept.
- Labels are told apart by where the graph draws them, not by their
text, so a category named "2" and the value axis' 2 stay apart.
- Label spacing follows a kept size (legend rows, offsets from the axes
and wedges), so bigger labels don't overlap; at 9 pt it's as before.
Wedge labels stay white on dark wedges unless given a colour.
- A kept style from a file is held to the Character controls' limits.
Own choice, as the page doesn't say what happens on a data change:
formatting one label formats its whole kind, since the labels are drawn
again from the data. Other ways of restyling text (eyedropper,
character styles, Find Font) aren't kept yet. New fields are written
only when set; graphs without kept formatting draw the same art as
before.
Graph Type's column, bar and cluster widths from 1% to 1000%, overlapping
past 100%, the overlap order, and Draw Filled Lines, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/format-columns-bars-and-lines.html
describes.
- Column and cluster widths take 1–1000% and are drawn as set: past
100% columns (or clusters) overlap. The legend moves past columns
that reach beyond the plot.
- firstColumnInFront draws the first series over the others (in each
layer); firstRowInFront draws each series' first category over the
next. Across series the series order decides, so each series stays
one group for Group Selection.
- filledLines draws the connecting lines of line, scatter and radar
graphs as 3 pt bands filled with the series colour (set as a fill or,
on a thin line, a stroke) with a thin black outline. A run with no
outline to make, or a graph past 20,000 data points, keeps thin lines.
- The Graph Type query lists the overlap options only for graphs with
columns or bars, and filled lines only for graphs with lines.
Own choices, as the page doesn't say: both overlap options start off
(today's order), and the band is 3 pt wide. New fields are written only
when set. Graphs with default options draw the same art as before.
Graph Type's Add Drop Shadow, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/add-drop-shadows.html
describes, and Add Legend Across Top, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/change-the-position-of-legends.html
describes.
- dropShadow: a shadow behind each column, bar, stacked segment, line
(line, scatter and radar) and pie wedge, just behind the series of
its layer, so areas and columns drawn in front don't hide the shadows
of the layer behind them.
- legendAcrossTop: the legend's swatches and labels left to right from
the plot's left edge, wrapping at the plot's width, the last row just
above the plot and anything drawn over it (radar and stacked-pie
labels).
Own choices, as the pages don't say: a shadow is a black copy 2 pt down
and right at 35% opacity; markers, areas and legend swatches cast none,
nor do stacked segments of 0; a graph with more than 200,000 shadowed
marks draws none.
New fields are written only when set. Graphs with default options draw
the same art as before.
Graph Data's Transpose row/column and Switch x/y, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/add-graph-data.html
describes, a `|` in a label as a line break, as
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/add-graph-labels-and-data-sets.html
describes, and the pie graph options of
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/format-pie-graphs.html
- graph.setData {transpose: true} swaps rows and columns (after any new
data in the same call); a graph with more categories than a graph can
have series (256) is refused rather than cut. {switchXY: true} swaps
each scatter series' y and x columns, labels included.
- A `|` in a category or series label starts a new line: legend rows
grow with their lines, labels beside an axis or in a wedge centre
theirs. A label of only `|` is blank.
- Pie graphs: pieLegend none|standard|wedges (Legends in Wedges puts the
series labels inside their wedges, in white on dark wedges, drawn over
the pies), piePosition ratio|even|stacked and pieSort all|first|none,
as dropdowns in the Graph Type dialog, which lists them for pie graphs
only.
Own choices, as the page doesn't say: Position and Sort keep today's
drawing by default (Even, None); Ratio sizes pies by area, the biggest
keeping the full size; Stacked pies share a centre, each drawn as the
ring outside the next smaller one so none covers another, with their
names over them.
New fields are written only when set. Graphs with default options draw
the same art as before.
Graph designs are named art a graph draws in place of its default
marks. Marker designs follow
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/apply-marker-designs-to-graphs.html
and the Graph Design dialog
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/automate-visualize-data/visualize-data/reuse-graph-designs.html
- graph.design saves the selected art as a named design (Save Design),
pastes a copy of a design into the document, selected, to edit and
save again (Paste Design), and deletes one; graphs drawing a deleted
design go back to their default marks.
- graph.marker draws the data points and legend swatches of the series
picked with Group Selection (or listed, or every series) with a
design: its backmost object is scaled to fill the default marker's
square, strokes, effects and pattern tiles scaling with it. Line,
scatter and radar series; null goes back to the default square.
- Object › Graph › Design… and Marker… open dialogs listing the
document's designs.
Own choices, as the pages don't say: the backmost object's bounds, not
only a rectangle's, set the size (a single object uses its own bounds);
Delete Design manages the list; a design keeps its own paint, so
painting a series doesn't recolour it.
Designs are stored in a new `graphDesigns` list and series designs in
`seriesMarkers`, written only when present. A graph saved as a design is
kept as the plain art it draws. A design holds at most 2,000 objects, a
document 1,000 designs, and a graph whose designs would draw more than
200,000 objects draws default squares; a file's designs are tidied the
same way on open. Global swatch edits, image relinking and placed
documents see design art like symbol art. Graphs without marker designs
draw the same art as before.
The report module moves to cmd/rasterfx/report.rs (the crate's foo.rs +
foo/ layout instead of #[path]). An object is the document's when its id
is below the document's next id, so building the report no longer walks
the whole document (and its symbols and patterns) on every PDF, SVG,
print and clipboard export. The parity docs say what changed in the
status line and one evidence bullet instead of a separate paragraph.

The 64 million pixel cap can silently lower raster-effect resolution. Report each original object's id and name with requested and achieved ppi through the existing export warnings, retaining the lowest resolution across its images.
Keep the cap and rendering unchanged, cover capped and uncapped exports, and record the evidence without changing parity scores.
The planar map merged sweep endpoints within eps into one vertex id but
kept each segment's own copy of the coordinates, so faces meeting at a
vertex could disagree on that corner by ~1e-13. Uniting them then failed
to cancel their shared edge, and a merged strip came back as several
touching subpaths whose stroke drew the inner edges as leftover lines.
Pin every edge's ends to its vertex's canonical position, so faces share
their corners bit for bit. Regression test from the reporter's grid.

After scaling 12 pt type 2x, the Character panel still showed 12 pt and
typing 10 pt gave 20 pt type. Character controls and text commands now
work in document points: the size, leading and baseline shift shown and
set are the stored ones times the text's scale along its em height, and
horizontal scale includes the ratio of the transformed em axes. Rotation,
reflection and shear stay in the transform, so text remains editable.
Groups' text counts, keyboard increments use the same units, Shrink
Text to Fit works in document tenths, and a collapsed transform rejects
dimensional edits without touching the document.
text.getRange takes effective: true for the document-space values.
Eight raster effects on the pixel-filter pipeline
(vectorcraft_effects::pixel::brushstrokes), under a new Effect › Brush
Strokes submenu between Blur and Distort in the Raster Effects section:
- Accented Edges (edgeWidth pt 1..14, default 2; edgeBrightness 0..50,
38; smoothness 1..15, 5): the edges of the softened object painted
towards white chalk at high brightness or black ink at low brightness;
Smoothness also leaves the faint edges out. The shape stays as it was.
- Angled Strokes (directionBalance 0..100, 50; strokeLength pt 3..50, 15;
sharpness 0..10, 3): light areas in right diagonal strokes, dark areas
in left diagonal ones; 0 makes every stroke a left diagonal, 100 every
stroke a right diagonal. Sharpness brings detail and bristles back.
- Crosshatch (strokeLength pt 3..50, 9; sharpness 0..20, 6; strength
1..3, 1): the detail kept under pencil hatching along both diagonals,
Strength passes of it, the edges roughened.
- Dark Strokes (balance 0..10, 5; blackIntensity 0..10, 6;
whiteIntensity 0..10, 2): short strokes towards black in the dark
areas, long strokes towards white in the light areas.
- Ink Outlines (strokeLength pt 1..50, 4; darkIntensity 0..50, 20;
lightIntensity 0..50, 10): black outlines over the edges, ink hatching
in the shadows, shadows darkened and highlights lightened.
- Spatter (sprayRadius pt 0..25, 10; smoothness 1..15, 5): each pixel
shifted by noise up to 0.4 x the radius; Smoothness makes the grains
larger and smoother.
- Sprayed Strokes (strokeLength pt 0..20, 12; sprayRadius pt 0..25, 7;
strokeDirection Right Diagonal, Horizontal, Left Diagonal or Vertical):
strokes along the direction, scattered by up to 0.3 x the radius.
- Sumi-e (strokeWidth pt 3..15, 10; strokePressure 0..15, 2; contrast
0..40, 16): wet strokes, ink bleeding from the darks along paper
fibres, more ink with pressure and an S-curve contrast for rich blacks.
It works in value only: hues and saturation stay, and so does the
object's shape (no fringe in the transparency).
A stroke averages the colour along a segment through the pixel (16
samples at most, the art softened first when they lie more than a pixel
apart); strokes lie in rows around the object's centre, each row
starting at random and each stroke shifted along itself, with streaked
noise for the bristles. Everything is in document space, so the effects
look the same at any zoom or resolution, move with the object and draw
the same every time; outsets and reaches are exact. On a 2000 x 2000
raster in release the slowest settings take 0.3-2.0 s (Crosshatch at
50 pt with 3 passes the most).
Shared helpers instead of copies: edges::sobel (Glowing Edges now uses
it, unchanged), distort::displace and texture::Tones are pub(super).
Catalogue rows with parameter docs, menu entries, Sprayed Strokes'
direction dropdown, translations (de, es, fr, it, ja, ru, uk, zh-hans,
zh-hant; menu labels in cs and pt-br), tests (parameters and clamping,
outsets and reaches, each filter and option showing, chalk and ink on
the edges only, shadows and rich blacks, Sumi-e keeping the shape and
hues, hatching keeping the tone, strokes smearing along their direction,
Spatter's radius, resolution and move invariance, canvas, multithreaded,
PDF and SVG, the command sweep with junk parameters, the menu) and
