The limits on a compressed file's entries were on their lengths. An entry of one byte at a far offset unpacked everything before it, and each entry behind the previous one started the stream over and unpacked the JSON and the gap again: a small hand-made file could ask for hours of decompression. All of it is now counted against one budget (the entries a writer can make, and the JSON once more), past which the file is refused as too big. |
