Preferences › General › Show The Home Screen When No Documents Are Open was stored and never read: the Home screen always replaced the canvas while no document was open. Off, the window is now empty while no document is open (as when Illustrator's option is off), and the Home button (`app.home`) still shows the screen; closing the last document returns to the empty window. `menus::home_showing` is the one place that decides, for the canvas and the Home button's lit state.
