bflatastic 0744347065 M14.4: tests main gained follow the no-panic lint rules
As the branch does for older tests: `panic!("…")` instead of
`unreachable!()` in test code (clippy.toml only allows unwrap, expect and
panic there), and the integration tests main added (CLI file I/O, render
gradient text and stroke geometry, SVG export suites) opt out of the
unwrap/expect/panic lints. No test logic changed.

bflatastic 7fb07bb3db M14.4: as_chunks for the pixel loops main gained since the no-panics branch
Same treatment as the branch's `as_chunks` commit (Rust 1.99's
`chunks_exact_to_as_chunks` lint) for the flattener's coverage pass, the
CMYK ink compositor, the Flattener Preview highlight and four test helpers.

Brandon Thomas 3e323bfa2a Robustness: VectorCraft never crashes — no panics in shipped code
Shipped code no longer unwraps, expects or panics: every one of the 124
unwrap()/expect()/panic!/unreachable! sites outside tests now handles the
failure (Result/Option, ?, let-else, defaults) and reports errors to the user.

- Lints: workspace clippy denies unwrap_used, expect_used, panic, todo,
unimplemented and unreachable; clippy.toml allows them in tests, and
integration tests, examples and testkit opt out explicitly.
- Safety net (vectorcraft_engine::guard): a panic in a top-level command rolls
the document back and returns EngineError::Internal; a panicking tool is
reset; the MCP server answers with an internal error and keeps serving; the
UI frame and each control request are guarded.
- APIs that hid failures now return them: Rendered::to_png/to_jpeg/to_webp
return Result (JPEG/WebP errors used to write empty files),
FontDb::face returns Option, Region::top returns Option.
- Fuzzing: engine/tests/import_fuzz.rs feeds garbage, hostile and mutated SVG
and PDF through import → render → export (30k cases locally, no panics).
- Docs: AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md rule, docs/development.md "Robustness" section,
README pointer and a PR template checklist.

bflatastic 025d758abe M3.83: gradients within, along or across a stroke
The Gradient panel's Stroke buttons now work: with the Stroke proxy on a
linear or radial gradient they lay it within the stroke (placed on the
page, as before), along the path (start to end of each subpath) or across
it (left edge to right edge; inside/outside strokes span their visible
side). `paint.editGradient {stroke: true, strokeMode}` sets it (new art
too with nothing selected); `document.inspect` reports
strokeOptions.gradientMode. Model: StrokeLayer.gradient_mode (default
Within, not written).

Shared geometry in effects::stroke::gradient: ribs on the bisectors of
the flattened path (fans round sharp corners, widened under arrowheads,
following width profiles) cut slices each painted with a linear piece of
the gradient (Gradient::span). The canvas and raster export clip them to
the stroke's outline and arrowheads, grown a pixel and composited with
copy so there are no seams and translucent stops paint once. SVG and PDF
write the same slices clipped to the outline, with a warning (new
vectorcraft_svg::export_with_report). Outline Stroke and Expand make
gradient meshes clipped to the outline. Mesh quads now grow along their
edges so thin quads show no seams. Dashes, profiles and arrowheads keep
working in both modes.

bflatastic d8eff17b9f M3.98: radial annotator extent ellipse, aspect handle and off-centre focal point
Radial gradients show a dashed extent ellipse: its handle across the bar
sets the aspect ratio, the ellipse elsewhere rotates it, and the dot inside
the centre ring drags the focal point (GradientGeom.focal) for an off-centre
radial. paint.setGradientGeom takes aspect (%) and focal ([x,y] | null), and
start/end may be left out; the focal point keeps its place in the ellipse as
the vector, aspect and object transform. It renders as a two-point radial,
exports and imports as SVG fx/fy and PDF two-point radial shadings, expands
to off-centre rings, and travels in gradient params and the native format.

bflatastic 9537eca5f7 M3.90: blend modes and opacity composite inks in CMYK documents
A CMYK document that shows transparency is drawn once per ink plane
(complemented C, M, Y; complemented K as a grey) so every blend mode,
opacity, group, knockout and effect composites inks, PDF-style; the
planes' inks are shown through the working CMYK profile (cached 4-D XYZ
table). Cyan multiplied over magenta now shows C100 M100. Opacity masks
keep screen luminance; RGB colours and placed images are separated
first. RGB documents and opaque CMYK documents keep the screen-colour
path.

PDF export of CMYK documents writes its transparency groups with
/CS /DeviceCMYK (luminosity mask groups stay RGB) and puts top-level
transparency in a non-isolated page-wide group so it blends in CMYK too.
Flatten Transparency composites CMYK documents ink by ink and makes CMYK
regions. Non-separable modes no longer give NaN for greys.

bflatastic ea61d34a93 M3.85: spot colours defined in Lab, with Spot Colors options for Lab values or CMYK equivalents
Colours gain a CIE Lab model (`Color::Lab {l,a,b}`, serde tag `lab`), handled through the
CMS (display, separation, conversions, gamut), tints (toward paper white), keep_model, harmonies,
recolouring, blends, Info and the Color panel. Swatch Options gets a Lab mode
(`swatch.edit {mode: "lab"}` / `{color: {l,a,b}}`), and colour params accept `{l,a,b}`.

Swatches panel → Spot Colors… (`ui.spotColors`, dialog `spotColors`) runs `swatch.spotOptions
{useLab}` (Document.spot_use_lab, default on): Lab spot colours show and separate from their Lab
values, or art linked to them takes their working-CMYK equivalents, as one undo step. PDF export
writes Lab spot inks as Separation spaces with a Lab alternate (tint function from paper white),
or a DeviceCMYK one with CMYK equivalents.

bflatastic c1df6f0621 M3.77: [Registration] swatch on every plate, trim marks on every artboard, Japanese marks and live Crop Marks
[Registration] is a built-in swatch that prints 100% on every plate: Separations
Preview shows it on each process and spot plate and PDF export writes it as
/Separation /All. It can't be edited, moved, duplicated, merged or deleted;
swatch.list shows it after None and the Swatches panel applies it as a swatch.
Object > Create Trim Marks strokes the marks in Registration and marks every
artboard when nothing is selected ({style?, allArtboards?}). The preference
japaneseCropMarks (General) switches to Japanese marks: double lines at the
trim and bleed edges plus centre marks. Effect > Crop Marks (cropMarks) is a
live effect whose marks follow the object; rendering, SVG/PDF export and
Expand Appearance draw them. The mark geometry lives in doc::marks.

bflatastic 3b2f46137a M3.89: a clipping path's fill paints behind the clipped art, its stroke over it
Paint given to a clipping path (paint commands with its id) now shows: its
fill paints inside the clip behind the clipped art and its stroke over the
art, unclipped, on the canvas and in SVG and PDF. Node::clip_paint splits the
clipping path into its fills and its strokes (type: its characters' too) for
all three outputs; the renderer caches the parts per clipping path. Clip group
visual bounds take in the stroke. Make Clipping Mask still leaves the clipping
path unpainted, as the reference app does; Ungroup no longer wipes a painted
clipping path's appearance (Release already kept it).

bflatastic 03571affbd M3.86: Alt-click the mask thumbnail to view only the mask
transparency.viewOpacityMask {on?, id?} shows only the opacity mask on the
canvas as greyscale coverage (luminance, clip and invert applied; the rest of
the art hidden) and enters mask editing; called again it shows the artwork and
keeps editing. The Transparency panel's mask thumbnail runs it on Alt-click and
is outlined in the accent colour while the mask is viewed. The state is
DocState.mask_view (shown while that mask is edited: DocState::shown_mask) and
reaches the renderer as RenderOptions.mask_view.

bflatastic b2ececc7b4 M3.59: tints of global and spot colours, tint swatches and Global colour balance
A colour linked to a global or spot swatch keeps a tint (Paint::Solid.tint, 1 by default and
left out of files at 100 %): paint.setFill/setStroke {swatch, tint} apply the swatch at that
percentage, swatch edits recolour every linked colour at its own tint, and Color::tinted
resolves it (CMYK and Gray inks scale, RGB mixes toward white). swatch.new saves a tint as a
tint swatch ("Ink 40%") linked to its base. Spot tints separate as that percentage of their
plate (Separations Preview, PDF Separation value) instead of an ink-ratio guess. Adjust Color
Balance's Global mode (tint) shifts the tints of linked colours. The Color panel shows Tint
mode (the swatch chip, its name and a T slider) for linked colours; the Swatches panel
highlights the tint swatch in use. Gradient stops get the same link and tint fields (the
swatch walks cover them), so GradientStop is no longer Copy.

bflatastic f75d7628c7 M3.91: Object > Flatten Transparency turns transparent art into opaque art that looks the same
object.flattenTransparency {preset?|options, ids?} splits the targets into groups of overlapping
objects. Groups with transparency become atomic regions (faces of the arrangement of every fill,
outlined stroke and clipping path) filled with the colour the renderer composites there: blend
modes, group opacity, isolated and non-isolated groups, knockout groups and knockout shapes, over
white or (Preserve Alpha) over nothing. Regions reached by gradients, patterns, images, opacity
masks or raster effects are rendered into one image per group, under the regions, clipped to
them with Clip Complex Regions. The raster/vector balance rasterizes whole groups past its region
budget (all at 0). Options and presets live in FlattenOptions; single visible paints keep their
colour and overprint; text and strokes can be outlined everywhere. One undo step.

bflatastic 2877407111 M3.81: freeform gradients: colour points with spread, smooth lines, first points placed inside the shape
Freeform gradients carry their own points (colour, opacity, spread) and lines
(Catmull-Rom curves through points), blended by inverse-distance weighting
from each disc of pure colour. paint.editGradient {kind: "freeform", mode?}
places 4+ points inside the shape, coloured along the stops (which follow the
points' colours). The renderer samples the field on a cached colour grid
drawn as an image paint clipped by the fill or stroke. Moves, transforms,
box rebases and warps move the points; old files load unchanged.

bflatastic 323b178ea7 M3.40: stroke on type — the Stroke panel edits the characters' stroke
With type selected, stroke.set (without an item) gives every run the
weight, cap, join, miter limit and dashes instead of adding an object
stroke; while the Type tool edits text, the Stroke panel styles the
selected characters through text.setRangeStyle `strokeOptions`, and the
panel reads the first run (or the selection's style).

CharStyle gains stroke_cap, stroke_join, stroke_miter_limit and
stroke_dash (defaulted, skipped when default). Character strokes and
object strokes on type now draw through the shared stroke geometry on
the canvas, in PDF and in SVG (live text writes cap/join/miter/dash and
tspans reset what the first run sets; object strokes are drawn on the
glyph outlines), so every stroke option, opacity and blend applies.
Outlines, the Eyedropper and graphic styles keep the options.

bflatastic 8a837fd4b9 M3.68: groups, layers and type have their own fills, strokes and effects, with Contents and Characters rows
A group's or layer's own fills and strokes paint every member's geometry, below or above the
members as the new contents slot (Appearance.contents_index) says; its geometry effects reshape
the members as one piece and its raster effects apply to the composite (one combined shadow),
respecting knockout groups. Type's own fills and strokes paint under or over its characters.
Render, SVG/PDF (via bake) and Expand Appearance evaluate them alike.

Commands: appearance.* / effect.* take target: "object"|"contents" and layer ids;
appearance.moveItem moves the Contents slot (from: "contents") or an item across it
(contents); appearance.targetContents selects a group's members. Graphic styles applied to a
group now style the group itself. The Appearance panel shows Contents/Characters rows that
drag, and double-click to target the members or edit the characters' paint.

bflatastic 45ff33e144 M3.75: layer clipping masks from the Layers panel button
layer.clippingMask.toggle {id?} -> {clip}: the top object of the current
layer (or of the one selected group, or of `id`) becomes the clipping path,
unpainted and moved to the bottom so art added later is clipped too; pressing
the button again releases the mask and leaves the path unpainted. One undo
step. The Layers panel button runs it and underlines clipping-path names.

Model: NodeKind::Layer.clip (skipped when false). Clipped layers render, hit
test, bound, and export to SVG and PDF like clip groups (Node::clips /
set_clips); the clip-path helpers are shared with Make/Release Clipping Mask.

bflatastic 54427d7a92 M3.74: blending inside a group reaches the art below unless the group isolates it
On screen, a group (or object) with opacity, a blend mode, an opacity mask or
knockout whose content blends is drawn offscreen over a copy of its backdrop
and mixed back in by its opacity, mask and clip (a group blend mode then
applies to the backdrop-free result, as PDF defines it). Isolate Blending keeps
the content starting from transparency. Clip groups no longer isolate their
children (blending content is clipped per drawing), and non-isolated knockout
groups composite their elements against the art below the group. Groups
without blending inside still render as plain layers.

In PDF, such groups are written as non-isolated transparency groups (a
constant-alpha soft mask instead of the writer's isolated opacity group),
knockout groups included.

doc: Node::blends_through / children_blend.

bflatastic a1a5c79b03 M3.73: blend modes follow the reference formulas on screen, in SVG and in PDF
color::blend gains blend_rgb (the 16 blend functions, with the 0.3/0.59/0.11
luminance of the non-separable modes), composite (source-over with blending)
and the shared opacity-mask luminance weights. Exported SVG masks take
luminance from sRGB values (color-interpolation="sRGB"), as the canvas does.

Tests: a per-mode table on the canvas (object, fill and group blend modes,
within 1/255; Exclusion 2/255 in the rasteriser's 8-bit pipeline), the same
table through SVG export rendered by resvg, clip and invert masks against the
canvas, and every mode's PDF name read back.

bflatastic 0c82a3f5c5 M3.49: each fill and stroke can overprint
Fill and stroke layers (and type characters' fill and stroke) carry an
overprint flag. object.setOverprint {fill?, stroke?, item?, ids?} sets it
(groups: their contents; type: its characters too; one undo step, none when
nothing changes) and attributes.info reads it back (null where mixed).
Overprint Preview and Separations Preview draw overprinting fills and strokes
with Multiply. The old Document.unknown["overprintBlack"] id list migrates to
the new flags on load; Overprint Black now sets the flags.

bflatastic 42ad4540b7 M3.38: dashes fitted to corners and path ends, a flag of their own that keeps the offset
With alignDashes every run between corners and path ends holds a whole number of
periods, scaled to fit, with a dash (or dot) centred on each corner and on both
ends of an open path. It lives in the shared dash generator, so the canvas, SVG
and PDF export (as outlines) and Outline Stroke all draw it.

stroke.set: alignDashes and dashOffset edit the current pattern on their own, and
a new dash array keeps the offset and alignment it replaces. The Stroke panel
turns dashes on fitted to corners (or as last turned off), and its Exact/Fit
buttons send only the flag.

bflatastic 0f1565aed2 M3.43: effects render on type, placed images, symbol instances, blends, envelopes, meshes and repeats; a fill or stroke's own raster effects render and export as SVG filters on that element
Geometry effects reach objects that aren't paths through their outlines (vectorcraft_effects::

paints raster effects around it in the same filter layers paths use (shared Renderer::raster_fx,
also used per fill/stroke). Exports bake the reshaped art; SVG writes per-item filters; PDF
warns about raster effects on strokes as well as fills and objects.

their brush art. The live Effect > Path > Outline Stroke outlines the stroke it

bflatastic 4f685be57a M3.26: clipping sets with any clip shape
Clip groups clip by compound paths (with their holes), even-odd paths, text
outlines and groups (the union of their members) on screen, in raster
export, in SVG and in PDF alike, through one shared region:
Node::clip_outline (the model walk) and effects::clip_outline (text
outlined, several shapes united), cached per clipping path in the
renderer. Nothing to clip by hides the clipped art everywhere, and clicks
hit a clip group only inside its clipping region. Make Clipping Mask takes
a compound path or text object on top (it loses its paint) and Release
gives it back unchanged in kind.

bflatastic b6b87ee9b6 M3.23: per-item Opacity popups and one grouped blend-mode widget
Clicking an Opacity row in the Appearance panel (a fill's or stroke's, or
the object's) opens a popup with the same blend-mode dropdown, opacity
field and slider as the Transparency panel (widgets::opacity_blend), and
edits that item through transparency.set. The blend-mode dropdown draws a
separator between the BlendMode::group() groups, also for the blend-mode
parameters of effect dialogs and inline effect editors. Fills and strokes
of type objects composite with their own opacity and blend mode.

bflatastic 5ae7bfb8ca M3.20: arrowheads: hollow outlines, tip/extend alignment, one opacity for line and head
Hollow heads draw as rings (the open arrow as a chevron) and closed paths get
no heads. The stroke stops under each head, so it never shows through a hollow
head or past the tip; stroke.set {arrowAlign: "extend"|"tip"} chooses whether
the tip extends past the end point (default) or sits on it with the stroke
shortened. Line and heads share one paint box (a gradient runs on into the
head) and take the stroke and object opacity once, as one layer on the canvas
and one group in PDF. StrokeLayer.arrow_align is a new defaulted field, so
older files load unchanged. The Stroke panel's Align buttons get two generated
icons and are disabled when the stroke has no head.

bflatastic 23f19a861b M3.19: dotted lines: zero-length dashes draw discs or squares
The shared stroke geometry now has its own arc-length dash generator: a dash
of length 0 becomes a dot that a round cap paints as a disc and a projecting
cap as a square turned along the path (a butt cap paints nothing). Dashes
restart per subpath, join across the start of closed subpaths, and a pattern
too fine for the path draws solid. The canvas and raster export use it through
line_outline; the stroke.set params doc says how to get dots.

bflatastic 09d7aaa7f4 M3.18: shared stroke-geometry module for arrowheads, width profiles and the profile preset catalogue
Arrowheads, width-profile outlines and dashed line outlines now come from
vectorcraft_effects::stroke (stroke_pieces, line_outline, width_outline), used by
the canvas and PDF export alike; the renderer caches profile outlines too. Width
profiles are a doc-level catalogue (WidthProfile::PRESETS, preset, preset_id,
id_of) shared by stroke.set and the Stroke panel; stroke.set rejects unknown
profile ids and its params doc lists the arrowhead names.

bflatastic aa1b592935 M3.16: the Gradient tool follows the active proxy and type objects — the tool and annotator edit the fill or the stroke by the focused proxy (ToolContext.fill_active); paint.setGradientGeom takes stroke? (default: the active proxy) and index? (one appearance item), sets type objects' vectors on their runs in text space and keeps the aspect the document shows; paint.setFill/setStroke vectors on type move into text space; aspect edits place run gradients on the layout bounds; run strokes (and type appearance strokes) fit the stroke-inflated box on screen and in PDF

storybored379 152228d76d Raster export: refuse sizes the renderer can't produce instead of crashing
PNG/JPEG/WebP export renders the artboard at the requested scale with no size check. The CPU
rasteriser addresses at most 65535 pixels a side (and panics at that edge), so a large artboard at
a print resolution, e.g. the maximum 16383 pt artboard at 300 ppi (~68 000 px), or a screenshot at
scale 16, panicked inside vello_common: the desktop app or the MCP server exited and unsaved work
was lost.

`vectorcraft_render::raster_size` checks the pixel size first (at most 32 768 px a side and 268
megapixels, like Rasterize already refuses oversized images) and the export paths return an error
that names the size: `document.export` / `exportSelection` / `serialize`, the MCP `export` and
`screenshot` tools, File ▸ Export and the control protocol's `ui.render`.

storybored379 c20b7deec5 Stroke dashes: an invalid dash pattern draws a solid stroke instead of hanging the renderer
A dash pattern with a negative value (for example [-5, 3], from `stroke.set` or a PDF `d`
operator) was handed to the dasher whenever any value was positive. When the values sum to zero
or less the dasher never advances, so rendering the document hung forever (canvas, screenshot,
PNG/JPEG export, `vectorcraft-cli convert`).

PDF (32000-1 §8.4.3.6) and SVG (`stroke-dasharray`) both define such a pattern as invalid and the
stroke as solid. `Dash::is_dashed` now says whether a pattern draws dashes (finite, non-negative,
not all zero), and the renderer, the width-profile outline, the SVG and PDF exporters and the PDF
importer use it, so an invalid pattern is drawn, written and read back as a solid stroke everywhere
(the PDF exporter used to clamp negatives to 0, writing zero-length dashes).

bflatastic 7bc50901e4 M4.13: review fixes — template sublayers are left out of raster exports too (the check moves into draw_arc), Export Selection skips art under a template layer at any depth, Export for Screens drops @Nx suffixes on SVG/PDF rows, names files without case clashes and calls an unnamed artboard Artboard-N, oversized raster exports are refused instead of writing empty files, a named MCP artboard/range replaces the option picks, and control app.export without a path returns dataBase64 instead of opening a save dialog

bflatastic 45a7302601 M4.13: export correctness and MCP export parity — document.export/serialize honour artboard, artboards or range ("1-3, 5") for PDF (one page per artboard) and return dataBase64 without a path; Export for Screens writes one page per PDF, ignores scale and @Nx suffixes for vector formats, names duplicate artboards -2/-3 and returns bytes without a folder; raster exports, thumbnails and Export Selection leave template layers out (RenderOptions.skip_templates); file.exportForScreens with params runs the engine; the MCP export tool takes artboard/range/options, lists formats from the engine and never retargets the document; CLI convert --range
